In March of this year we headed south for a few days in the McKenzie district, which is part of the Canterbury region of New Zealand. Based in Twizel, we did a few rides on the Alps 2 Ocean cycle trail. Good fun.
It’s a beautiful part of the country with some impressive landscapes. The drought conditions emphasised the typical autumn hues creating some striking colour pallets – especially the orange/brown grassed hills next to the turquoise canal waters.
This area is a curious mix of natural beauty and human industry with it’s canals, hydro stations, salmon farms and man-made lakes alongside the Southern Alps, Lake Ohau and Lake Pukaki.
