A collection of fungi images from Nelson’s Brook Waimārama Sanctuary.
We’re regular visitors to and also volunteers at the Brook Sanctuary so it’s a bit of fun to document the fungi we encounter over time. It’s one aspect of the growing biodiversity to be enjoyed at the Sanctuary, almost year-round.
The primary purpose here is to record observations along with any relevant ID data so stay tuned if you’re interested in that sort of thing. I’ll endeavour to post more images and information on a regular basis.
Accurate identification of fungi is challenging. I try to err on the side of caution and revise as new information comes to light, so all the IDs offered below are essentially provisional, even if I’m feeling more confident about some than others!
I post some observations on iNaturalist, links to those below, feel to join the discussion!

Comment: Tricky ID – there are a few species that look pretty similar. Could be Milky Bonnet – Hemimycena lactea

Given the time of year, a bit surprised at number of fungi observations on this particular trip.

Possibly late-ish in the season for a healthy patch of Hypholoma brunneum like this. Spotted on a trapline outside of public areas in the Sanctuary during pest control activities.
