The Creek fern is native to New Zealand (where it’s also known by an alternative Maori name Kiwakiwa) and southeast Australia where it is known as the Ray water-fern – and possibly some other countries depending on what source you believe.
The Creek fern is found in damp shady forest spots like the ones below on the Croesus track in the Southern Paparoa Range on the West Coast of New Zealand.
Its radial form and lighter olive-green leaflets help to distinguish it from the Button fern.
