Nelson artist & designer Lee Woodman’s Escape Plan 101 exhibited at NMIT’s g_space gallery in July & August of 2019.
This installation was built around ladders of different scales and sizes along with other structural elements, mostly fixed with clamps.
I shot some footage and stills of the exhibition over a few visits and in consultation with Lee, fashioned a video that attempts to capture the essence of the installation.
Here are a few stills of the exhibition shot on the old Panasonic G85 and processed in darktable.
Call me old fashioned, but in a time where the label ‘art’ is frequently applied to pretty much anything, I appreciate a work that involves meticulous craftsmanship, skilled execution and displays true aesthetics of form.

Here’s the background audio track that played during the exhibition. Created from a video of an 8mm projector used for one of the installation projectors. It combined with other ambient sounds from the gallery to produce an interesting effect – cf. the video.
