Light Nelson Event 2018 Video

Light Nelson happens every two years in the city of Nelson – at the top of New Zealand’s south Island. This iconic mid-winter light festival celebrates the ingenuity, talent and generosity of the Nelson art community.

This year around 40 000 people came to take in the 66 light installations around central Nelson over four days (the Sunday evening was cancelled due to rainy weather).

Aside from being a great night out, this was an opportunity to do some more low light video tests with the Panasonic G85, this time taking a more systematic approach, adding a faster prime lens to the mix and pushing the ISO a bit further. A fun exercise yielding some interesting results and discoveries.

I was going to do some side by side comparisons but ended up taking a less time consuming route that yielded the same info for me and is hopefully more interesting for you (yes, of course I care about you silly).

Quite a few snippets left on the cutting room floor but there’s some footage (I found out later) of a world record breaking model DNA molecule, Chloe Loftus the Tree Aerialist in Albion Square, the ever-popular Moas and the legendary Lightbulb men.

Ended up with a bit of a haunted carnival feel. Not sure how that happened. Probably the choice of music. Just went with it.
